Mycology May

Mycology May

Mycology May is a collaborative initiative between the Central Tablelands Regional Landcare Network (CTRLN) and Local Land Services (LLS). This month-long program aims to educate landholders and the broader community about the vital role of fungi in ecosystems, from bushlands to agricultural systems. The events not only raise awareness but also actively involve participants in citizen science, contributing critical data to enhance our understanding of fungal species in the New South Wales Central Tablelands region.

Project Overview

Throughout May, Mycology May features a variety of events designed for a diverse audience. These include fungi identification workshops, educational soil health sessions, scientific fungi surveys, and exploratory field walks. Expert mycologists, soil scientists, and ecologists lead these sessions, providing cutting-edge research and insights into the fascinating world of fungi.

To aid in the identification of fungi in the Central Tablelands and Central West of NSW, Local Land Services have created a comprehensive guide featuring 96 selected fungi species. This guide showcases conspicuous and distinctive species that are relatively easy to identify in the field.

This year, we are thrilled to welcome back Alison Pouliot, an esteemed ecologist and environmental photographer. Alison is renowned for her work in fungal conservation both in Australia and internationally. Her compelling writing and stunning photography are featured in various publications, and her renowned fungus forays attract a diverse audience worldwide. Join Alison in exploring the intricate world of fungi and learn from one of the field’s most dedicated and inspiring voices.
